About Me
I am dedicated to achieving a more just, humane, and socially responsible world. Having graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in December 2024 with a degree in English literature, I hope to put my education and individual talents to work in the field of social justice. This will most likely be law school, focusing on civil rights and plaintiffs’ cases against corporations, as I feel that the “little guy” is often neglected and dismissed in seeking basic human rights like housing, healthcare, and a living wage in an environment free from discrimination.
I believe that I am a good team player and also have leadership skills that will serve me and any employer that I work for well. I attended public school in Durham, North Carolina from elementary school through high school, graduating from the Durham School of the Arts, where I was captain of my high-school tennis team and played in piano in the jazz band.
I took time off from college during COVID, between my sophomore and junior year, and worked at Legal Aid of North Carolina, where I oversaw the documents being received by central intake, helped lawyers with case management, ran free public legal clinics over Zoom, sat as the front office receptionist, received mail and packages for the office, and responded to letters from prisoners, among other things. These experiences in non-profit and public service, especially in eviction diversion and domestic violence cases, instilled a strong sense of social justice in me and a desire to uphold the social safety net to help people who need assistance.
My time in college solidified my intent to do public service work. I shadowed at the emergency room for an English journalism project which was really enlightening in terms of seeing how access to medical care varied in terms of people’s socioeconomic situation. I learned a tremendous amount about the struggle for indigenous people’s rights in my class “The Long 1960’s in Native America”. These experiences have furthered my commitment to public service and social justice.
